So Paityn finally didn’t have a basketball tournament so I thought I would at least get Saturday off because she did have softball practice on Sunday. I received a phone call from my mom telling me that the Women’s Oregon Ducks basketball team were offering cheap seats on Saturday to their game against Cal.
At first I was thinking that we wouldn’t go because Paul had to work, but then we decided that we should do something fun. So Maddux, me, Paityn, and two of her friends (Maddi and Taylor) drove down to Eugene early Saturday morning.
The game started at 12:30 PM, so dad made us breakfast and then we were off to the beautiful new MATT COURT.
Mom and “the girls” walked around and came back with shirts and signed posters. In the practice gym the women’s softball, lacrosse, volleyball, and soccer teams were there signing posters and giving items away. The girls had a blast walking around and finding new food to eat. They shared popcorn and curly fries and then went for the “Duck” Voo Doo donut.
I’m so happy that we decided to make the trip down…..we were able to spend some good time together, see mom and dad, and watch a good basketball game.

Newberg Wins Dallas Tournament!!!!
A Winning Weekend of Basketball!!!
This weekend the Newberg girls basketball team were in Dallas playing in a tournament.
Earlier in the week Paityn asked where are we playing this weekend? I said Dallas. She said…Dallas, Texas??? I looked at her and she smiled. No, not Dallas, Texas…..Dallas, Oregon. I wasn’t even exactly sure where Dallas was in Oregon, but I did know it was somewhat close to some really good wineries J
The girls started off the tournament playing Sunset at 11:50 AM. The girls won that game 40-19. We had lunch and then traveled to Dallas High School for the second game which started at 1:50 PM. They played Dallas (home team) and beat them 26-20. The girls played great and were very excited to have won both games.
Sunday the first game was at 8:30 AM (we had to leave the house at 6:30….way to early!!!). They played Molalla and beat them pretty handedly. They played very tough, but our girls didn’t let down at all. By winning that game, that put us in the championship game for that tournament….They ended up having to play Dallas again for the championship. The game came down to the last few minutes, but Newberg pulled it out and WON!!!!!

Busy Weekend….Again!!!
This 3 day weekend was another crazy weekend for the Willoughby’s
Besides both kids being sick on Thursday and Friday, Paityn had 2 basketball games on Saturday, 2 basketball games and softball practice on Sunday, hitting and speed and agility on Monday. WOW!!!!
The basketball games this weekend were in Canby. The girls went 1-1 on Saturday and then came back and finished strong by winning both on Sunday. They are all getting so much better each weekend and gelling together as a team. It is really nice to see them improve each week!!!

1st Weekend of Basketball in the New Year
This weekend the 6th grade Newberg girls had a tournament at Jesuit High School in Beaverton….Paityn’s future High School!!!!
The girls started off good on Saturday morning with a win against Sunset. They later lost in a “nail bitter” against West Linn. The girls were a little upset after losing that game, but at that age it doesn’t take long for them to bounce back.
Sunday they played their first game against Team Players. This is a “club team”, which means that they pick the players they would like to be on their teams instead of a school team. Just a little more competitive, that’s all. Just like paityn in softball….. The girls played really hard the 1st half and about half way through the 2nd half they “hit the wall”!!!! They were never losing the game more than 4 points, but once that happened the final score was…40-22. I felt really bad for them, but they are getting more experience each game. The final game was against the best team in the tournament for 6 grade. Clutch is also a “club team”. The girls played so good during this game. They only lost by 8 and looked really good the entire team. I think the girls really made an impression. Paityn ended up have only scored 2 baskets, but had 10 rebounds and played great defense.
They are having fun, learning, and getting to spend time with each other each weekend!!!!

Bleed Green
All eyes turn to Glendale, Ariz. Monday night as the long wait ends and the Oregon Ducks get their chance to take the National Title. Despite the massive hype, the Ducks have maintained the laser focus that led them to through unbeaten season and to this final game with closed practices and a take-no-prisoners attitude.
To stoke your spirit, check out the Ducks power ballad from Wednesday’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

BCS National Championship: Nate Costa takes the field
That's Nate Costa, in the red, on the far right.
Oregon quarterback Nate Costa, out since suffering the third major knee injury of his career against Washington on Nov. 6, suited up for Monday's first practice at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix.
Because the practice was closed to the media, it isn't known exactly how much Costa participated, but he was in pads, with his red no-contact jersey and the new yellow "blur'' shoes - although he still walks with a pronounced limp.
A UO spokesman said Costa has not been cleared to play and when asked whether he took any snaps or practiced at all, the spokesman said, "No.''
Since Costa's most recent injury, on a botched field goal attempt against the Huskies, he has had surgery and has remained a team leader and inspiration, although this is believed to be the first time he has suited up since.
Nate is such a great kid and we all wish him well!!!
