Maddux’s 5th Birthday Party!!!!

Maddux's 5th Birthday Party!!!! (click to view video)

We had Maddux’s birthday party this last Sunday since his “girlfriend” Lillee was in town from Reno. We couldn’t have a lot of his friends over because of course Paityn had a basketball tournament and we had no idea when it was going to be done. We had a smaller “family and close friends” party for him and he was thrilled. He is not into his parties as much as Paityn was. I think it has a lot to do with the weather also.

Paityn played her first game on Sunday at 11:30 AM in Beaverton and won, YEA!!!! After that game was finished Maddux and I headed out. I took him to lunch, drove to Lafayette to pick up food for his party, and then home to get things set up at the house. I tried to make the rest of the day all about him, since almost every other day is about Paityn.

With tons of help as always from my mom and dad we were able to get everything done before the party started and people started to arrive. Honestly I don’t think it really matters if I have a small party or a huge party. I tend to have the same amount of food and things to prepare for and just as expensive!!!! I knew I wasn’t going to have that much time cooking and getting things ready, so I decided to have a Mexican food theme.

Appetizers
Homemade jalapeño poppers
Homemade habanera poppers
Homemade salsa/chips
7 layer dip

Dinner
Carnitas
Rice
Beans
Tortillas
Shrimp salad
Fruit

I also made his cake. I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and he told me chocolate, chocolate, and white chocolate chips. The theme for his party was a “painting theme”, I had to try to think of something that the kids could do indoors…..So I made him a 5 layer (since he was tuning 5) chocolate cake with chocolate frosting with white chocolate chips sprinkled in between each layer. Then we decorated it like a paint can…..I think the word is “TRIED” to decorate it looking like a paint can. Between my dad and I, I think we did a pretty decent job.

The “activity” for the kids was to paint a tile. I also had paper for them to paint on, but it was just way to cold to be out in the garage for that long of time and I don’t think the paint would have dried. As it is, the paint on some of the tiles are a little wet.

Overall the party was a hit and most importantly Maddux had a great party!!!!
