#1 being quailed for National’s – which they completed that two weeks prior
#2 being to Win State
#3 being to finish “top 25” in the Nation at National’s.
The Willoughby family was especially looking forward to this weekend…The Orosco’s were driving up to visit us and Alissa had a tournament in Portland the following week.
The Panther’s first game was at 10:00 AM on Saturday. Our first game was against The Blaze….
I couldn’t believe when I saw our first game was against The Blaze. The Panther’s had only beaten them 1 time before and that was at the National Qualifier in Kent Washington. We had a tough bracket, but all the parents had “faith” in the girls…. We ended up winning that game 6-4, but that meant that we had the Fever 97 next. Paul unfortunately had to go to work so the Orosco’s, Paityn, Maddux, and I drove home. We had a nice BBQ lunch and were able to catch up. We headed back to Salem for the second game of the day which started at 4:00 PM. Fever 97didn’t give us much of a fight. We beat them 11-6 and that meant we moved to Sunday. If we would have lost we would have played at least 2 more games that evening to make it to Sunday.
Sunday we started off with the Northwest Thunder from Eugene. They are coached by Mike White who is also the head coach for the Oregon Ducks Women’s softball team. Personally I was a little scared for this game. They are a great team and play very well together. The Panther’s were down most of the game, but ended up pulling it out in the 6th inning and beating them 10-6. By winning that game that meant that we were automatically in the Championship game, so we would win and get first or lose and have another game to determine the winner. Of course we wanted to win outright and be done with it, but we had to wait to see how the cards fell to determine who we played. Once the games were completed…Blaze received 3rd place overall and that meant that Northwest Thunder was going to play us once again for the Championship!!!!
The girls really wanted this game….They came out on “fire” and didn’t let down at all. The final score was 9-4.
Panther’s Win STATE!!!!!!
